A collection of some of the most commonly used anti-vegan arguments and effective responses.
Since it seems that every vegan is expected to constantly defend themselves regardless of their willingness or ability, I have created a list of what I consider to be the twenty most commonly used anti-vegan arguments and their rebuttals. These arguments are not intended to convert anyone, only to assist vegans who may struggle to defend themselves, whether because of cognitive difficulties, a lack of time and energy to do the research required, or just not being able debaters.
- Eating animals is normal.
- Eating animals is natural.
- Eating animals is necessary.
- Eating animals is a personal choice.
- Eating animals is part of our culture/heritage.
- Eating animals is ethical because it is legal.
- Eating animals is okay so long as they are killed humanely.
- Animal products are ethical if they are produced on a small farm.
- It is okay to eat animals because we are top of the food chain.
- Humans have always eaten animals.
- Animals are bred to be eaten.
- Other animals eat meat too.
- Soy is just as bad as animal products.
- Agave is worse than honey.
- Quinoa is unethical too.
- Plants are alive/ feel pain too.
- Poor people can’t go vegan.
- It is impossible to be 100% vegan.
- Going vegan won’t save animals.
- If we didn’t eat animals they would overpopulate/ go extinct.
- God made animals to be eaten.
- Humans are more important than animals.
- Going vegan would put farmer’s jobs/ the economy at risk.
- There isn’t enough land/water for everyone to go vegan.
- There is no ethical consumption under capitalism.
- Veganism is not sustainable.
- Veganism isn’t cruelty free either.
- Vegans exploit crop workers.
- Veganism ignores human suffering.
